Serrano, Carolyn DeMorest–Pen and Ink Drawings

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAs a child, Carolyn sketched the buildings, plants and animals around her home, always captivated by the wonder of transferring reality into images on paper. For the next twenty years she concentrated on a degree living in Michigan and Texas. In her spare time, she became an antique hound, foraging at auctions and out-of-the-way specialty shops for relics of her beloved grandmother’s time.

Carolyn realized that her God-given talents had been stifled too long so she began taking art classes. She sought out her peers through membership and soon became a leader in the art leagues and historical societies. She was able to merge her love of antiques with her drawing skills as she began making historical drawings her focal point. In 1994, Carolyn moved to Hendersonville and quickly established herself as an accomplished artist and teacher. She is in her element, creatig pen and ink drawings from photos of historical subjects, which are available as signed and numbered prints and note cards. She also accepts Commissions.

Carolyn gives back to her community by volunteering in various capacities. She has participates as a Heritage Crafter at the Western North Carolina State Fair, the Henderson County Curb Market and the Village of Yesteryear North Carolina State Fair.

Carolyn continues to expand her area of expertise through the support and encouragement of her husband, Ed Serrano. Her studio space is located in the historic Federal Building at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Church Street in downtown Hendersonville.
